Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a license in New York State.  The license must be purchased at least 24 hours before the ceremony and is valid for 60 days.  The fee is $40.  Applicants need to provide a birth certificate, driver’s license and, if they have been married before, a copy of their divorce papers.  A marriage license can be purchased from any Town Clerk in New York State for a marriage in this state.  Both applicants need to appear in person. An appointment can be made if that is more convenient for the couple.
